Church Work Day

Everyone is invited to the next big Trustees’ project: Work Day — a day of cleaning, sorting, restoring, and moving on Saturday, June 6 at 9 a.m.

We have some yard work to do, we’re planning on clearing out obsolete and broken items, sorting through supplies, reorganizing closets, cleaning and making lists of needed repairs. Moving the pews out of the choir area – part of our chancel remodel project – is also on the agenda. We hope to choose paint colors for classrooms in preparation for a future painting day.

Annual Conference 2015

The Virginia Annual Conference June 19-21 in Roanoke provides us with many opportunities to contribute to those in need.

bullet

Conference Offering: The Virginia Conference has set the goal for this year's offering at $150,000. We will collect an offering in June to support this effort. Donated funds will be distributed evenly to:

bullet

The Methodist Mission in Cambodia as they purchase property for new churches and expand mission.

bullet

Support for medical training and supplies in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

bullet

Virginia programs working with children and families living well below the national and state poverty levels in the Danville and Eastern Shore Districts.

bullet

Kits for Conference: We continue to support the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) with emergency kits that we assemble and donate. Greenwood already has nearly 60 Health Kits with more kits and more donations coming. Anyone wishing to assemble kits or donate equivalent funds, can find kit contents and instructions posted in the narthex, or at UMCOR's web site. Please have your kits or donations at the church by June 14 so they can be assembled and transported to Conference.

bullet

Food Donations: The Conference will collect canned food contributions and partner with the Society of St. Andrew in their Potato Drop to provide food to local food banks.

There's lots more information about Annual Conference at the Virginia UMC website here.

As the people of God, we are called to develop our faith through the understanding of God’s love and to be a church dedicated to prayer.

We believe that Christ is calling us to serve by being present and welcoming to all, regardless of ethnic, cultural or economic background.

God calls us to give our time, talent and monetary resources to proclaim effectively the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
